Membership FAQ

  • How do I register with Ayr Shopmobility?
  • Just visit our office and bring a form of ID which shows your address. If you have any difficulty coming into our office telephone us and we will make arrangements. The whole process takes under 10 minutes.
  • How much does registration cost?
  • £10 annually. Valid from 1st June to 31st May.
  • How do I become a member?
  • During registration tell us you would like to become a member.
  • How much does membership cost?
  • Membership fee is £2 per year.
  • Do I need to be resident in Ayr to use your services?
  • No. We have members who are resident in Girvan, Ardossan, Darvel, Cumnock and Dalmellington. Also, visitors to the area are welcome to use our services.
  • Do I need to be registered as having a disability to use your services?
  • No. Shopmobility is open to anyone of any age with either temporary or permanent disabilities.

Equipment FAQ

  • What type of equipment can I borrow?
  • We lend manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters. You can see details of all equipment by visiting "Equipment" section of our web site.
  • How much does it cost to use the equipment?
  • An annual registration fee of £10 is applicable or a Day Tripper fee of £5 is applicable. If service users wish to make a donation however, it would be very much appreciated.
  • How long can I keep the equipment?
  • All equipment must be returned to our office by 4p.m.
  • Can I borrow equipment for a longer term?
  • Yes. We loan out manual wheelchairs. Costs are £25 deposit plus daily fee of £5 or £20 weekly.
  • I have never used a powered wheelchair/scooter. How easy is it?
  • It is very easy. Our trained staff will guide you through the use of the equipment you wish to borrow.

  • Do I need to book the equipment in advance?
  • You are strongly recommended to book your equipment at least 24 hours in advance as we have limited resources.
  • How can I make a booking?
  • You can make a booking by phone, e-mail or by visiting our office. You can also make a standing reservation, where your booking will be renewed automatically.
  • How do I cancel a booking?
  • If you need to cancel a booking please contact our office as soon as possible.

General FAQ

  • Where is your office?
  • Our office is located in the town centre, next to the multi-storey car park.
  • What are your opening hours?
  • We are open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Do you have a car park?
  • The scheme is located in a purpose built centre at the base of the multi-storey car park. We also have a limited number of free parking spaces for clients using our equipment.
  • How does the mini bus operate?
  • The mini bus must be booked in advance. The bus will pick you up from your home, and return you home again when you have finished your shopping. The mini bus is fitted with a hydraulic tail lift to enable easy access. One carer may travel with you if required. This service is free of charge.
  • How can I become a volunteer?
  • We always welcome volunteers. Please visit our office for details. All volunteers will be subject to checks.
  • How can I make a donation?
  • Ayr Shopmobility is a registered Scottish Charity. We appreciate all donations, small and large. Currently you can make a donation by post, or by visiting our office.
  • Can you help me with my shopping?
  • Yes. Guides are available to assist people with sensory impairments. We can also provide you with a Shopping Companion to assist pushing wheelchairs and help with shopping. If you require to be accompanied while you are shopping, please ensure you give us advance notice.
